Deep Dive Discussions: Making Sense With Sam Harris

Making Sense by Sam Harris is another one of the many podcasts I enjoy.

In the previous Podcast Recommendations, I discussed the necessity of long form discussions in our everyday lives. To continue with this theme, I wanted to recommend another one of my preferred podcasts, “Making Sense with Sam Harris” Podcast. Sam Harris is a neuroscientist, philosopher, and best-selling author. I became interested in what Harris discusses when I heard him speak as a guest on the Joe Rogan Experience. I knew I wanted to explore his work more because he had a deep level of understanding of certain societal issues as well as a unique way of dissecting these issues.

Although Harris discusses many issues, topics, and ideas on his podcasts, the topics can all be grouped into one of three categories in my opinion. The categories are either Religion, Politics, or Philosophy. Now I won’t discuss his political views or opinions on religion since these topics tend to be points of contention. However, I will advocate for the Philosophy category since this is a point of interest for me.

Sam has many book as well as over 150 podcast episodes to choose from. For me to discuss any of the topics he brings forward would be futile and would not do it justice. I encourage you to explore his podcast, pick a topic you find interesting, and strap in for a couple hours worth of a deep dive into the subject.

One last thing that interested me in Harris is his advocacy for mindfulness and looking inward to fix outward problems. He advocates for mindfulness as a means to keep your temper at a constant and reducing the half-life of anger. I encourage everyone to listen to his mental health oriented podcasts since we need more and more of it everyday.
